"Here lies interred the body of Henry Grey of Shoreston near the tomb of his parents He died 6 June 1817 aged 78 respected while living by his friends and when he died lamented by his family the whole tenor of his life was unassuming honest just and good and his death was that of the righteous." Henry is said to be of Shoreston House here, but to have died at Bamburgh hall.

Sacred to the Memory of Lieutenant John Grey of the Army Who died the 25th of September 1777 in the Thirty fifth year of his Age and was here interred near ye Tomb of his Father Whilst living he was respected & much beloved, Dying he was universally lamented. This Monumental Plate was affixed by order of his affectionate Mother, As a means of preserving his Memory on Earth and a Testament of Maternal Regard.
George Grey the brother of John Grey of Dilston (above) married Jane Gregson whose family were later linked to the Shoreston Greys.

The Shoreston Greys
John Neil Grey was a keen family historian and kept notes on the Grey families in Northumberland. His Shoreston family tree appears to be copied from the Northumberland Histories but has missed out a generation.

In memory of Mary Dorothy Donaldson Selby daughter of Rob.t & Eliza Grey who died 1889 aged 92 years.
Robert Grey sold Shoreston to the Ordes who are recorded as owning it here until it was sold in 1910. At the time of Robert's daughter's marriage in 1819 he is said to be of Shoreston Hall here. His wife Eliza is listed as dying at West House, Cheswick, Berwick aged 69. Robert is of Shoreston Rectory, Dorset here. In 1836 John Grey is of Shoreston House here.
" Anthony, father of John Gregson, and great-grandfather of John Gregson, who purchased the estate of Lowlinn in North Durham, and d. 1779: he was grandfather of Anthony Gregson, Esq. of Lowlinn, high sheriff of Northumberland 1825, who dying unm. 23 NOV 1833, devised his estate to his cousin, HENRY KNIGHT, Esq., eldest son of the Rev. Henry Knight, rector of Ford, in Northumberland. Mr. Knight assumed in consequence the surname of Gregson, and became of Lowlinn, J.P. and D.L. Northumberland: he m. 1844, Eliza-Mary, dau. of J.-S. Donaldson Selby, Esq. of Cheswick ..."
